MetroLink train crashes into car, temporarily stops service in East St. Louis

A Bi-State spokesperson said there were 10 people on the train at the time of the crash. None of the passengers or the driver of the car were seriously injured.

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill — MetroLink trains were shut down in Illinois for more than an hour after a train collided with a car Wednesday morning.

MetroLink trains were not operating between the 5th & Missouri and Emerson Park MetroLink stations as of 9:30 a.m., according to a press release from Bi-State Development. Shuttles were transporting passengers between the stops while the crash was being investigated.

Video from the scene of the crash where Martin Luther King Drive crosses over the train tracks in East St. Louis showed a white vehicle with front and driver's side damage near the train tracks.

There were 10 people on the train with the crash occurred, and no one reported serious injuries, said Jerry Vallely with Bi-State Development.

The tracks were reopened at 10:40.

Vallely said the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department was investigating the cause of the crash.
