ST. LOUIS — Former First Lady Michelle Obama made a secret stop at a St. Louis area Target recently and left a surprise behind for a lucky few shoppers.
In a video post to X, formerly known as Twitter, Obama said she heard that her newest book "The Light We Carry" was available in paperback at Target and had yet to see it in the store.
The book, originally published as a hardcover in November 2022, was published in paperback and was released in stores on April 16, 2024.
So while in St. Louis, Obama and her crew set out on a "secret mission" and went into a Target to check the paperback book out.
In the book section, Obama found the paperback display, signed six copies of her book and left them for a few lucky customers to find.
5 On Your Side confirmed she visited the Target on Rusty Road in south St. Louis County. An employee also said all the signed copies had been bought.
She said via X that if a customer finds one, let her know!
Obama made a couple of other pitstops in Target for some errands including the pet care aisle and clothing department.
"Got something for me, something for my husband and something for Sunny," she said. "The girls, they can get their own stuff."
The video also shows her checking out with the items she had grabbed and leaving the store with her crew. Obama even hinted at another possible "covert operation."
