WASHINGTON COUNTY, Missouri — A rally driver was killed in a crash while competing in the Show Me Rally competition Saturday in Washington County, Missouri.
The American Rally Association said in a Sunday statement that Jakub "Kubo" Kordisch, 42, of Commerce City, Colorado, crashed along with his co-driver at the end of stage 9 of the competition, just outside of Potosi.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Kordisch was driving a 2015 Ford Fiesta west on Palmer Road near Welker Road around 2:50 p.m. Saturday when the car traveled off the roadway's right side and hit a tree.
Kordisch was pronounced dead at the scene. His co-driver suffered minor injuries.
Both men were wearing seatbelts.
“I've known Kubo for a long time and we are heartbroken to have lost him,” ARA Series Director Preston Osborn said in a statement. “He had worked his way from fan to mechanic, to co-driver, and then to driver. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the rally community.”
The last two stages of the rally were canceled following the crash.
The ARA said anyone wishing to help the Kordisch family could donate to the RACEAID Fund in his name.
