The Missouri History Museum in Forest Park is the first museum in the country to receive the Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion (DEAI) award from the American Alliance of Museums.
In a press release, the American Alliance noted the museum’s programs which date back decades, including a town hall meeting in response to public unrest after the 2014 fatal shooting of Michael Brown. It has also hosted programs addressing LGBTQ communities, the school-to-prison pipeline, and other topics.
The American Alliance of Museums is the only organization representing the entire museum community. It represents more than 35,000 individual museum professionals and volunteers, institutions, and corporate partners serving the museum field.
