All officers at a Missouri police department resign, deputies say

All members of the department submitted their resignations to their city council on Monday, the county sheriff's office said.

MARBLE HILL, Mo. — The Marble Hill Police Department was left in a state of limbo Monday after all the department's officers turned in their resignation to the city council, according to the Bollinger County Sheriff's Office.

The resignations will go into effect on Friday, county deputies said. The sheriff's office is reportedly in communication with city officials to address the situation and said it was confident it could negotiate a resolution to provide law enforcement without interruption.

Just 33 minutes after the sheriff's office shared the news, Marble Hill's Police Chief Kristin Nenninger posted the following explanation on the police department's own Facebook Page:

 Dear Citizens of Marble Hill:

I have tendered my resignation as Chief of Police. Effective August 23, 2024. It has been a great honor and privilege to serve you all.

This decision did not come easy as I take my service as Police Officer and First Responder very seriously. I cannot faithfully support my Officers and provide you, the citizens of Marble Hill, with law enforcement services you all deserve due to the city putting constraints on the budget and cutting into the Police budget.

For the same as I have already mentioned, Captain Gilliam has also tendered his resignation.

The other officers have also resigned on their own accord.

God Bless

Marble Hill is the largest city in Bollinger County as of the 2020 census and serves as the county seat.

Four other police departments in the St. Louis area recently dissolved for varying reasons. Calverton Park Police Department dissolved in July, Bel-Nor dissolved its department in April, Velda City's department abruptly dissolved in March, and New Haven's department shut down in February.
