Family escapes mobile home fire in Cahokia Heights, claims fire was intentional

One resident said the fire was intentionally set with an explosive device. Firefighters said no such device was found.

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. — Flames destroyed a mobile home early Monday morning in Cahokia Heights.

According to the Cahokia Fire Protection District, a call came in at about 1:40 a.m. Monday about a mobile home on fire on Garden Street. It began when an RV in the driveway caught fire and spread to the mobile home.

Three adults and two dogs were able to escape the home. No one was injured, but the home sustained extensive damage, firefighters said.  Flames melted the siding on one end of the mobile home.

A member of the family told 5 On Your Side that she believes the fire was intentionally set. She said an acquaintance was mad at someone who lived there and threw a stick of dynamite at the home.

Hours later, the Cahokia Fire Protection District said there was no explosive device found at the scene and the cause of the fire remained unknown.
