Mother loses everything in house fire days before Mother's Day

"I miss my kids," she said. "It's really hard on them too because we're trying to figure out where we're going to go."

JONESBURG, Mo. (KSDK)--

As mothers around the country received messages of love, one Jonesburg mother was left with a “condemned” note on her home for Mother’s Day.

Aimee Keiser “It’s just a sense of shock,” said Aimee Keiser.

Keiser and her four children were supposed to spend her special day in their yard barbecuing. However, earlier this week their lives were turned upside down when their home was destroyed in a fire.

“There’s debris 3 feet high. You can’t even walk through it. The whole floor is burned out,” she said.

Late Monday night, her oldest daughter, Molly, saw flames coming from the second floor and rushed in to help. Firefighters told them it was likely electrical.

“It singed the hair off her arms, and some of her hair off…but she ran through the fire. Grabbed the 2-year-old then woke up the 12-year-old,” Keiser said.

Keiser, her four children and the dog all made it out safely, but they lost everything else including a pet snake and rat.

“Not even having a pair of shoes to put on to go into the gas station. It was really challenging,” she said.

Now instead of spending Mother’s Day together, her kids are staying with friends and other relatives.

“I miss my kids,” she said. “It’s really hard on them too because we’re trying to figure out where we’re going to go.”

She said despite the hard times, she’s just happy everyone is alive.

Adding to their hardships, Keiser is a respiratory health therapist and works from home. She said without a home, she's unable to work and make money.
