ST. LOUIS — A man was killed Wednesday morning in a fatal, multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on northbound Interstate 55 in St. Louis County.
According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), just before 9 a.m. Wednesday, the driver of the tractor-trailer yielded to oncoming traffic as he headed northbound on I-55 south of Butler Hill Road when the driver of a Ford F450 hit the rear side of its towed unit. Then, the driver of a Honda CRV hit debris that she saw fly from the Ford as a result of the collision.
Responding emergency personnel arrived on the scene shortly after and transported the driver of the Ford F450 to a local hospital, where he died. Police identified the man as 39-year-old Jimmy-Jack Johnston, of De Soto, Missouri.
There were no other reported injuries.
The Honda CRV had minor damage as a result of the crash. The tractor-trailer was not reportedly damaged at all.
It remained unclear whether the victim wore a seat belt during the incident, according to MSHP.
