Woman hit, killed by flyaway beach umbrella identified

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Authorities have identified a woman who died after she was hit by a beach umbrella Wednesday evening.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Authorities say a Richmond-area woman was killed after she was hit by a beach umbrella Wednesday evening.

Around 5:07 p.m., emergency communications received a call for service for a woman in cardiac arrest on the beach at 33rd Street. When crews arrived, they found a woman suffering from a life threatening injury.

She was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

The woman has been identified as 55-year-old Lottie Michelle Belk, of Chester, Virginia.

Investigators say Belk was on the beach when a strong gust of wind blew an anchored beach umbrella across the sand, which then struck her.

Virginia Beach Police say there is no evidence of foul play.
