ST. LOUIS — The Brickline Greenway is unveiling and celebrating a pivotal milestone in the project's mission to unite communities.
On Wednesday, project leaders will launch and unveil the start of construction along Market Street. This will extend the greenway 0.3 miles from CityPark Stadium to Harris-Stowe State University.
The Brickline Greenway is a 10-mile network of greenways that will link 14 St. Louis neighborhoods from Forest Park to the Gateway Arch.
Project leaders said the expansion on Market Street means easy access to small businesses, major employers, and other key spots in the city.
The Brickline Greenway is a collaborative effort between Great Rivers Greenway, Harris-Stowe State University and the City of St. Louis. The greenway "aims to enhance accessibility, promote environmental sustainability, and honor local history through public art installations," according to a news release.
Kuleya Bruce, Brickline Greenway project manager, visited with the Today in St. Louis Weekend Edition team about the impact this project will have on the downtown area.
"It is a place for everyone to unite. It's an equitable and inclusive area for all of St. Louisans to meet each other, and also visitors, as well," she said.
Bruce said this project is all about the community.
Wednesday's event will have performances and free food trucks. There will also be speakers, including Susan Trautman, CEO of Great Rivers Greenway, and Dr. LaTonia Collins Smith, president of HSSU to highlight the impact the project will have on the metro area.
During the event, people will be able to see the vision behind the greenway and its potential impact on the community.
The launch party is happening from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Harris-Stowe State University.
