House fire leaves elderly Jennings woman dead

Firefighters rescued the woman from her burning home, but she died the next morning at an area hospital.

JENNINGS, Mo. — A woman died Wednesday after being injured in a fire at her Jennings home.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department, emergency personnel responded just before 6 p.m. Tuesday to a house fire in the 9400 block of Altonwood Drive.

North County Fire and Rescue found 72-year-old Deborah Jordan and began life-saving measures after removing her from her burning home, police said. She was later taken to an area hospital for treatment.

At about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jordan died at the hospital as a result of her injuries, police said.

Detectives with the St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit and Crime Scene Unit were still investigating the cause of the fire as of Thursday, but police said it did not appear to be suspicious based on preliminary investigation.
