Neighbors have growing concerns after car crash involving St. Louis police officer

"That crash could've been avoided if both drivers had just stopped," a neighbor said.

ST. LOUIS — A controversial two-car crash was caught on camera at about 8:30 Tuesday night in north St. Louis.

It involved a St. Louis police cruiser and a white Nissan.

The owner of a nearby business shared the video with 5 On Your Side.

It shows the police cruiser traveling west on St. Louis Avenue and the Nissan going northbound on Sarah Street when both flew through stop signs. The lights on the officer's squad car were not turned on when the Nissan collided with the back of it.

"I couldn't believe it," neighbor Eva Keys said.

Keys says she rushed outside after her roommate heard the loud impact.

Keys says after the initial collision, the police car flipped over, knocked down a concrete barrier, damaged a second barrier and pushed her roommate's Ford Explorer several feet into her white Oldsmobile parked outside their home. The police car ended up on its roof.

Remarkably, no one was seriously injured.

"When I came outside, the fire department and everybody, they were here, and then, I noticed how my vehicle was hit. I blew my stack. I didn't have a choice," said Eva Keys.

She and other neighbors are still wondering who was at fault.

5 On Your Side reached out to St. Louis police about the crash and Keys' concerns but hasn't heard back.

Meanwhile, a furious Keys is clear on what she wants from the police department.

"I want them to fix my car," she said. "Yes, I believe the crash could have been avoided if both of those drivers had just stopped at the signs."
