While one Metro East hospital closed its doors for good to patients, another opened theirs for the first time.
St. Elizabeth's Hospital accepted their first patient at around 4 a.m. Saturday morning via their previous hospital in Belleville, Belleville Memorial Hospital. During the patient transfer, active reserve troops from nearby Scott Air Force Base assisted in making the conversion as comfortable as possible.
St. Elizabeth's Hospital sits off Green Mount Road in O'Fallon, Ill., just north of Interstate 64.
In all, about 60 patients were settled into their new stay by late morning Saturday.
