ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A woman was killed and a teenager was hurt in an I-70 crash in St. Louis County Friday afternoon.

O'Fallon, Missouri, resident Valerie L. Wescott, 54, died at the scene of the crash. A 16-year-old girl also from O'Fallon was hurt. She was a passenger in the minivan Wescott was driving. The girl was taken to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.

Wescott was driving west on I-70, east of Missouri Highway 141 and west of the Missouri River when the crash happened, a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

According to the report, Wescott was following another car too closely before crashing into it. Wescott's 2008 Honda Odyssey then traveled to the right of the roadway down an embankment. That's when the minivan struck three parked vehicles.

Fire and rescue crews with the Pattonville Fire Protection District responded to the crash. Wescott and her passenger were not wearing seatbelts. No other injuries were reported.

The minivan was not insured.
