ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Folks in and around Manchester, Town and Country and Ballwin on Thursday may see some flames and smoke coming from nearby Queeny Park, but there's no cause for alarm.
The St. Louis County Parks' Forestry Division has scheduled a controlled burn at the park around 11 a.m. Thursday, a written release from officials said.
The planned fire will help native grass and flowers grow while limiting invasive species, the St. Louis County Parks and Recreations release said.
Smoke from the fire may impact the Tails & Trails Dog Park and the Greensfelder Recreation Complex at Queeny Park. The trail near the planned burn will be closed.
St. Louis County Parks Forestry Manager Jason Pratte will be at the park for the fire.
Officials plan to hold a briefing at 11 a.m. to go over the plan for the controlled burn and safety precautions. The planned fire will take place after the briefing.
Controlled burns rely heavily on weather conditions, so slight weather changes result in the fire being canceled or postponed.
Queeny Park is accessible by several St. Louis County communities because of its location. Queeny Park's northern and western borders are shared with Town and Country. The park is also a short distance from the Manchester and Ballwin municipalities.
