ST. LOUIS — Schnucks is once again collecting money for Folds of Honor.

You can round up at the register to fund scholarships for relatives of wounded and fallen service members and first responders.

Two St. Louis County sisters are among those who the scholarship is setting up for success.

For David Chambers, it was a lifelong dream to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps.

"My grandfather was a Marine. I knew it was something that I always wanted to do since I was a child," Chambers said.

From 2007 to 2012, Chambers served his country during multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan, where he earned a Purple Heart.

"In 2012, I was wounded in action. I was shot in the hip by enemy machine gun fire."

After spending two weeks in the hospital, Chambers was back on the front lines serving as a linguist.

"I learned Afghan Pashto at the Defense Military Institute," Chambers said.

It's a skill that David, and his wife Kristina, have passed down to their children.

"My wife and I both speak several languages. We think it's very important to learn and know several languages to be able to communicate with and understand the world better."

"Kids are like little sponges. They pick up languages very fast."

Folds of Honor provides scholarships to the families of American service members and first responders. With the help of those scholarships -- Chambers' daughters Cecilia and Amalia are able to attend Assumption Parish School…where they are learning four different languages.

These skills are setting the 7- and 8-year-olds up for success later in life.

Though their parents admit it wouldn't be possible for their children to learn such skills without the support of the Folds of Honor family.

"Folds of Honor is able to provide such a good education and allow my daughters to have opportunities that they otherwise they wouldn't be able to have," David Chambers said.

"All I can say is thank you so much for making this possible," Kristina Chambers said.

To donate to this year's Folds of Honor campaign, you can round up at the register at any area Schnucks through May 28.
