ST. LOUIS — The Radio Television Digital News Association has announced 5 On Your Side as the recipient of another national Edward R. Murrow Award.
The award honors a story titled “Cody’s Wish,” which was reported by anchor Mike Bush and filmed and edited by photojournalist Tom Stasiak. The story won in the “Sports Reporting” category.
Earlier this year, “Cody’s Wish” was awarded a Regional Murrow. This was one of four awarded to 5 On Your Side. The other three were: “Overall Excellence,” “Excellence in Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion,” and “Excellence in Writing.” All regional winners advance to the national competition.
“Cody’s Wish” aired on 5 On Your Side as part of Bush’s “Making a Difference” segment, which features inspirational stories each week. This story pays tribute to the memory of Cody Dorman, whose family was honored at the 2023 Musial Awards.

Murrow Awards are among the most respected journalism awards. They are the embodiment of the values, principles, and standards set forth by Edward R. Murrow, a journalism pioneer who set the standards for the highest quality of broadcast journalism.

Bush and Stasiak will accept their award at a gala in New York City in mid-October.
Since 2003, 5 On Your Side has been awarded 68 Regional Murrow Awards, including eight for “Overall Excellence.” This is 5 On Your Side’s third National Murrow in the same time span.
