ST. LOUIS — “Today in St. Louis” anchor Rene Knott is headed to Paris to cover the Olympic Games. He is part of an elite group of 12 TEGNA journalists selected to provide on-the-ground coverage of the Games for stations throughout the United States.
Knott left for Paris this week. He will bring viewers along on his trip through live reports featuring inside looks at everything going on behind-the-scenes, including interviews with some of the world’s top athletes. Viewers can also follow him on Facebook, X, and Instagram for additional content.
“The ability to witness our own St. Louis athletes compete on the world’s highest sports stage in Paris and to be able to bring the experience to our 5 On Your Side audience is truly indescribable,” said Knott.
5 On Your Side sent Knott off in style with a Parisian-themed lunch on Wednesday. The lunch featured six-time Olympic medalist and East St. Louis native Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
“We all recognize how special the Summer Games are in St. Louis, the birthplace of the Olympics in America,” said President and General Manager Alicia Elsner. “That Olympic spirit runs deep in St Louis, and it’s a vital part of our city’s legacy. Rene is uniquely qualified to bring that Olympic spirit home to our viewers each weekday morning, along with the vibrant essence of Paris.”
This is Knott’s fourth time covering the Olympics for 5 On Your Side and TEGNA. He has covered the Games in Athens, London, and PyeongChang. He has also been selected to carry the Olympic torch three times – twice when it came through the St. Louis area and once when he worked for WJLA in Washington, D.C.
