ST. LOUIS — 5 On Your Side is proud to announce that two St. Louis-area charitable organizations, Urban Harvest STL and Operation Food Search, are being awarded $10,000 grants by the TEGNA Foundation to address food insecurity.
Twice a year, TEGNA — 5 On Your Side’s parent company — lets a employee-led committee consider and make recommendations of local charitable organizations that apply for grants.
Earlier this year, the committee received 75 grant applications. Over the course of several weeks, committee members met, discussed and studied the applications before voting on two organizations to recommend to the TEGNA Foundation.
On May 9, the TEGNA Foundation notified 5 On Your Side that it approved the committee’s recommendations. Checks in the amount of $10,000 will be distributed to Operation Food Search and Urban Harvest STL in late June.
“Considering our level of involvement with the community, we get an opportunity to see so much good done by the people who make up local charitable organizations. We are grateful to have the opportunity, through our parent company, to contribute to their efforts and multiply the great things they are already doing," said 5 On Your Side General Manager Alicia Elsner.
In August, the second round of the TEGNA Foundation grants process begins. The 5 On Your Side committee will recommend two more 501(c)(3) charitable organizations for $10,000 grants.
Representatives of local 501(c)(3) organizations that are interested in being considered can start the grant application process at ksdk.com.
