ST. LOUIS — 5 On Your Side anchor and multi-skilled journalist Travis Cummings will be recognized next month as a 2024 Salute to Blacks in Media honoree by the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis.

Cummings was selected for his standout work and the way he uplifts and amplifies the voices of Black and Brown communities. The Urban League also cited his “dedication to balance, inclusivity, and integrity.”

“It is an absolute privilege to be honored by an organization that values and reaches so many people across our region and has done so for over a century,” said Cummings. “The Urban League aligns with my passion as a Black journalist in St. Louis and works endlessly to connect and improve many of the communities we cover. I’m always overjoyed when I get to shine a light on that impact. I’m thankful for this wonderful honor, the leadership, and the entire team at Urban League for recognizing my contributions to our city’s story.”

“5 On Your Side’s goal is to serve our community with quality journalism and Travis serves in multiple ways, as a weekday reporter and weekend anchor on ‘Today in St. Louis,’” said News Director Art Holliday. “It’s gratifying for any of our newsroom employees to be recognized for exemplary work, and I know Travis is excited especially because the recognition is from the Urban League, which plays such an important role in St. Louis. Awards are the result, not the goal; when we do excellent work, we hope the community notices, so in this case, congratulations and well done, Travis!”

Cummings is a native of New Orleans and currently works as a multi-skilled journalist on “Today in St. Louis” during the week and as an anchor alongside Mercedes Mackay on the show Saturdays and Sundays. He came to 5 On Your Side in December 2021 from WRCB, the NBC affiliate in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He has a degree in Communication Arts – Journalism from Spring Hill College.

The Urban League has planned a luncheon for Sept. 10 to recognize all honorees.
