Clinton County high schools Mater Dei and Breese Central collect food for Tackle Hunger III

Operation Food Search officials say the donation totals represent enough to help provide quality nutrition to 1,861 people for one day.

CLINTON COUNTY, Ill. — The results are in for Week-2 of Tackle Hunger III, “the Clinton County Battle for Breese!”

  • Central Community High School: 3,205 pounds
  • Mater Dei High School:  4,237 pounds
  • Week Two Total: 7,442 pounds 

Operation Food Search officials say the total of these donations is valued at $13,618.86 and they represent enough to help provide quality nutrition to 1,861 people for one day.

“Both schools in Breese did amazing work for Tackle Hunger, this week!” said Operation Food Search President & CEO Kristen Wild. “We are thrilled to see the response to Tackle Hunger III and truly appreciate KSDK, Neighbors Credit Union and the participating schools.”

Below are the running totals for Tackle Hunger III, just two weeks in.

  • total pounds of donated food: 9,005 pounds
  • total value of all donations: $16,479.75
  • will provide quality nutrition to 2,251 people for one day

“We are humbled by the community's amazing generosity,” said KSDK President and General Manager Alicia Elsner. “We are equally inspired by our area high schools standing up for St. Louis area residents in need.”

“It is so rewarding,” said Neighbors Credit Union Senior Vice President – Marketing Paula Anderson, “working side-by-side with our members, 5 On Your Side, and high schools throughout the metro area to bring nutrition and hope to our neighbors in need.”

Stories about the two schools’ efforts aired on “Today in St. Louis,” “Show Me St. Louis,” and the Friday 10 p.m. sports segment, “5 On Your Sideline.”

Next week Operation Food Search officials will deliver 15 empty barrels to administrators at two more area high schools which have signed-on to the food collection effort - St. Francis Borgia and St. Dominic.

Operation Food Search officials say last year, Tackle Hunger was one of their most successful food collection efforts.
