ST. LOUIS — The numbers are for Week 3 of Tackle Hunger III!
Students at two St. Louis-area high schools competed, collecting food items for Operation Food Search all week.
- St. Francis Borgia High School collected 3,349 pounds
- St. Dominic High School collected 10,830 pounds
“WOW!” said sponsor Neighbors Credit Union Sr. Vice President of Marketing Paula Anderson, “That far surpasses the 8,005 total of the four schools for the first two weeks … AMAZING!!”
Operation Food Search officials say the donations from Borgia and Dominic are valued at $26,112.27 and they represent enough to help provide quality nutrition to 6,528 people for one day!
“We are thrilled to see the response to Tackle Hunger III and truly appreciate 5 On Your Side, Neighbors Credit Union and the participating schools,” said Kristen Wild, Operation Food Search President & CEO. “We’re grateful that our generous community and partners are helping us fight food insecurity in such an immediate way.”
“We are inspired by our area high school communities standing up for St. Louis area residents in need,” said KSDK President and General Manager Alicia Elsner. “We are humbled by their amazing generosity.”
A story about the Borgia and Dominic communities’ efforts aired on “Today in St. Louis,” and “Show Me St. Louis,” Friday morning, and the Friday 10 p.m. sports segment, “5 On Your Sideline.”
Operation Food Search officials say last year, Tackle Hunger was one of their most successful food collection efforts.
Monday, Operation Food Search officials will deliver 15 empty barrels to administrators at two more area high schools that have signed on to the food collection effort - Timberland and Troy Buchanan. Those two teams meet on Sept. 20.
