Timberland and Troy Buchanan high schools 'Tackle Hunger' for Operation Food Search

While people cannot donate food items for Tackle Hunger at the Friday night football games, you can drop items off at any area Neighbors Credit Union.

ST. LOUIS — Week 4 of Tackle Hunger is made possible by Neighbors Credit Union. The Missouri and Illinois high school football season is nearly half over!

This contest features Troy Buchanan and Timberland high schools.

Operation Food Search dropped off several barrels at each school, Monday. At Troy Buchanan by Wednesday, you could barely see the bottom of the barrels! Senior spokes-students say they promoted the event with banners and recruited help from the Buchanan community.

Senior cheerleader Libby Besher said, “Our school has really come together to support this, because food drives are a big thing in Troy. We do many of them throughout the school year, and we kind of have a rivalry with Timberland, so it makes it more fun.”

Senior football player Jackson Trower said, “We posted it kind of all over the place - social media, Barstool Sports, Chess Nation, Twitter.

Operation Food Search picked up donations at the Florissant Neighbors Credit Union location at New Halls Ferry Road on Wednesday. While people cannot donate food items for Tackle Hunger at the Friday night football games, you can drop them off at any area Neighbors Credit Union during regular business hours.

Timberland High School in Wentzville is the school competing with Troy Buchanan, this week. Timberland student organizers say their campaign is going better than last year. They made posters and a promotional video, launched social media campaigns and made a plea during daily announcements.

“It's going pretty good,” said senior Addison Crislip. “We have had quite a bit of student body participation, which we're happy for.”

Junior Grant Beattie said, “We've had so many people come in. Even if it's just bringing a can or two, it all adds up.”

Senior Evee Northeis said, “Even my parents said something about it. My friends from other schools were like, ‘Oh, our school doesn't do that. Why are you guys doing it?’ And I said, ‘We're just like that. That's the thing we do.’”

Operation Food Search collects and weighs those conations from each school, on Friday of the week they are competing. The results are announced on 5 On Your Side's 10 p.m. sports segment, “5 On Your Sideline.”

Alton Marquette and Althoff will compete in Tackle Hunger next. Those two schools will collect donated food items for Operation Food Search and square off on Sept. 27.
