ST. LOUIS — The results are in for Week 4 of Tackle Hunger, the food collection event for Operation Food Search, made possible by Neighbors Credit Union.
- Timberland High School: 610 pounds
- Troy Buchanan High School: 5,858 pounds
- Weekly Total: 6,468 pounds
Operation Food Search officials say these donations are valued at $11,836.44 and they represent enough to help Operation Food Search provide quality nutrition to 2,959 people for one day!
While donations are not accepted at the Friday night football games, you can donate food items to any of the St. Louis area branches of Neighbors Credit Union during regular business hours. Operation Food Search picked up donations delivered to two of the eight branches, this week:
- New Halls Ferry: 515 pounds
- Jennings: 424 pounds
Alton Marquette and Althoff high schools will compete in Tackle Hunger and square off Sept. 27.
Here’s how it works: Each week, Operation Food Search officials drop off 15 empty barrels at two schools that are playing each other, Friday night.
Students and staff collect donatable food items all week. Friday, Operation Food Search picks up the barrels, filled with donated food, and weighs them.
5 On Your Side produces stories about the schools’ collection efforts, which air each Friday on “Today in St. Louis,” (4:30-7 a.m.). The results are announced on “5 On Your Sideline” during the 10 p.m. sports segment.
