BALLWIN, Mo. — A Parkway West High School student allegedly posted a threat to social media which prompted authorities to take action.

Early Thursday morning, Parkway West Principal Jeremy Mitchell sent a note to parents of the high school, saying he was made aware of a threat posted online Wednesday night by a current student. He added that the student and his family had been in contact with the school and the Chesterfield Police Department.

Both the school and police do not believe the threat was viable, citing they "fully believe that students will be safe at West High" on Thursday. The student admitted to posting the threat.

"We take these matters very seriously and do not condone this behavior," said Parkway West in a statement. "The actions of this student are in violation of our discipline code, and the student will be held accountable within the parameters of the district’s discipline policy and the law."

The police continue to investigate the incidents leading up to threat. Police will be on campus all day Thursday to ensure the safety of the students.
