17-year-old struck and killed on I-44 in St. Louis County

The two left lanes of I-44 eastbound near Antire Road were closed for about two-and-a-half hours.

ST. LOUIS — The left two lanes of eastbound Interstate 44 east of Antire Road are back open after being closed due to a pedestrian fatality early Friday morning, Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed.

EMS and St. Louis County police responded to the scene at about 3:45 a.m. after a 17-year-old boy from O'Fallon, Missouri, was struck on the interstate. The driver told investigators the teen was standing on the highway and tried to swerve to avoid him. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Eureka fire personnel. The teen's name has not been released by the highway patrol.

Troopers talked to the driver involved at the scene.
