PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. — A missing 13-year-old was found safe Tuesday night in Atchison County, Kansas, and the man she was with was taken into custody on a child kidnapping charge.
The sheriff's department said the teen went missing Monday night and was believed to be with someone she met online.
A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with the case. On Wednesday, the sheriff's department announced in a Facebook post that prosecutors charged Osias Everson, 20, of Bothell, Washington, with one count of child kidnapping, which is a Class A felony.
According to a probable cause statement, Everson and the teen were found in a hotel room in Atchison, Kansas.
Everson is currently in custody in Atchison County, where he is being held on a $500,000 bond.
Everson is facing separate charges in Kansas. Once they are adjudicated, he will be extradited to Missouri to face the child kidnapping charge.
The sheriff's department thanked the FBI, Kansas Highway Patrol and the Atchison Police Department for their assistance and said local citizens came forward with information that helped them find the teen.
