PINCKNEYVILLE, Ill. — An earthquake shook the southern Illinois city of Pinckneyville Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake originated around 3 miles northeast of the city at around 10:34 a.m., officials said. The earthquake was measured the quake at 2.5 magnitude.
The Geological Survey received seven reports from people in the area about the earthquake, according to the survey's website. The DYFI, or "Did You Feel It," reports were issued from people in Carbondale, Mount Vernon and Harwood Heights. People in Salem and Louisville, Kentucky, and Dacula, Georgia also reported feeling the quake.
It's not the first earthquake southern Illinois residents have felt recently. More than 300 residents felt a 3.1 magnitude earthquake on Dec. 18. A 3.6 magnitude earthquake shook communities around Standard, Illinois on Nov. 15.

- Step 6: Improve safety after earthquakes by evacuating if necessary, helping the injured, and preventing further injuries or damage.
After the immediate threat of the earthquake has passed, your level of preparedness will determine your quality of life in the weeks and months that follow:
- Step 7: Reconnect and Restore — Restore daily life by reconnecting with others, repairing damage, and rebuilding community.
