‘Bomb threats’ in St. Louis part of nationwide mass robo-email

Officials do not believe the threat is credible.

LINCOLN COUNTY, Mo. - Students were evacuated after a bomb threat at Troy South Middle School on Thursday.

The incident is the latest in similar incidents happening nationwide.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department said the email threat came from Moscow, Russia. Officials do not believe the threat is credible, but they’re taking normal precautions.

Lincoln County R-III Schools shared this to their Facebook,

All students and employees are safe at this time. Pick up directions will be forthcoming. Troy South Middle School has been evacuated due to a bomb threat. Administration is currently working with law enforcement. Updates to follow.

Statement from St. Louis FBI

The FBI is aware of the bomb threats received locally and in cities around the country. We remain in touch with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance. As always, the FBI encourages the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety.

Statement from St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department

There has been a mass robo-email circulating nationwide regarding a bomb threat and payment of $20,000 in bit coin. The SLMPD wants the public to know there is no reason at this time to believe the threat is credible. The FBI is aware of the emails and is investigating the source. If you do encounter any suspicious activity or items around your home or business, please contact the police.
