ST. LOUIS — St. Louis police are investigating after a body was found Tuesday afternoon in River Des Peres.
A spokesman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said police were called to the area of River Des Peres Boulevard and Gravois Avenue at around 1 p.m. where the body of a 45-year-old man was discovered.
Police later said the man found dead was suspected of attempting to break into a home in the 4600 block of Primm Street earlier that day at about 3:20 a.m.
Police said the homeowner reported the suspect had broken a front window of the home in an attempt to get in through the front door. Surveillance footage and evidence at the scene helped identify the suspect.
Blood evidence at the scene of the burglary led investigators to believe the suspect may have cut himself on glass during the incident. Blood was also present where the body was found, and the man appeared to have a cut on his hand, police said.
There were no other signs of trauma to the man's body, police said. Autopsy results from the Medical Examiner's Office were pending.
