Car hits St. Louis County police officer dispersing Florissant crowds Saturday night

The officer was hit minutes after 10 p.m. in the 11200 block of New Halls Ferry Road on Saturday.

FLORISSANT, Mo. — A St. Louis County police officer is in recovery after being hit by a car in Florissant Saturday night, a written statement from the St. Louis County Police Department said.

According to a spokesperson from the department, minutes after 10 p.m., officers from the North County Precinct were sent to the 11200 block of New Halls Ferry Road to disperse a crowd. The officer was hit by a car while dispersing the crowd.

The officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

5 On Your Side spoke with several residents in the area who said the issue of reckless driving and large crowds isn't abnormal.

Dee, who lives in a nearby apartment complex, said speeding is common the area and she purposely avoids driving in the area at night.

"Anything you need to get from the store you need to get before it gets dark. They drive crazy, the next thing you know, there's police and sirens," she said.

A local business owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, saw all of the commotion as he was leaving work Saturday and said he's seen this all before.

"I just pray for everyone because if the police can't stop them, who can," Dee said.
