Project 5 volunteers start work on renovations to Jennings High School pool area

On Monday, volunteers from 5 On Your Side worked alongside officers with the St. Louis County Police Department and veterans from SIUE's Upward Bound program.

JENNINGS, Mo. — Monday brought the first snow of the season and the first phase of work to renovate the pool area at Jennings High School.

Project 5 is working with the St. Louis County Police Athletic League (PAL) and Jennings School District on the renovation efforts, which will include freshly painted walls, fixing a leak in the pool, replacing the pool deck and diving boards and upgrading the lighting.

On Monday, volunteers from 5 On Your Side worked alongside officers with the St. Louis County Police Department and veterans from SIUE's Upward Bound program.

Monday was also Veteran's Day, and Jim Robbins said spending time painting at Jennings High School was the best way to spend it.

"We see Veteran's Day as a national day of service," Robbins said. "We're happy to get to help out."

PAL will use the pool to teach swim classes to dozens of kids in the area. The upgrades will also make the pool usable for the school and greater community.

PAL said the Home Depot locations in Florissant and Overland donated supplies for the project. They hope to complete the work by Thanksgiving.
