Skeletal remains found at Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park

The remains were discovered Sunday.

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — Police are investigating after human skeletal remains were found at Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park.

According to Maryland Heights police, the remains were discovered Sunday at the park.

Police said Monday morning they were investigating in the area of the Boathouse. The remains were not yet identified, but there were no signs of foul play present.

This summer, 67-year-old Richard Angert was reported missing after his vehicle was found at Creve Coeur Lake. His bike was missing from its rack on the car, and he was known to go biking there.

In early August, St. Louis County police said they were unsuccessful in finding the man after an extensive search.

Angert was still listed on the Missouri State Highway Patrol's active missing persons list as of Monday afternoon.

Police have not said there's any connection between that search and the skeletal remains found Sunday.

Lily Bornhop visits the park often and was jogging near the park's restaurant when she saw a large police presence.

"There's usually a lot of people out here, so I guess you never know," Bornhop said. She noticed at least 10 police vehicles, including eight near the park restaurant.

Patricia Stewart comes to the park several times a week to exercise with her friend, Paulette Stith. She was surprised to hear what happened Sunday.

"I love this park, it's so beautiful. I'm really very shocked about what happened," Stewart said.

Paulette Stith said the recent news does make her worried about visiting the park when it's not light outside. She worries about the dense wooded areas.

"I'm not going to do evenings but it makes me feel a little apprehensive. But I'm going to keep coming," Stith said.

As of Tuesday morning, police said they were waiting on Medical Examiner's Office tests to determine the identity of the person found.
