ST. LOUIS — Between Billy Joel, Sting, and the Evolution Music Festival thousands of fans are expected to flock to the city, but there are lingering concerns that they could be washed out by the remnants of Hurricane Helen.
Editor's note: Since this story's publishing, the Billy Joel and Sting concert at Busch Stadium has been rescheduled to Sept. 29.
For months, music fans like Jennifer Flath have been waiting for Billy Joel and Sting to take the stage at Busch Stadium.
“The day they went on sale I bought the tickets,” Flath said. “I wouldn’t miss Billy Joel for anything.”
However, Mother Nature may have other plans thanks to the expected impact from Hurricane Helene.
“There are some people that are really concerned about not just being there, but getting there, coming from as far away as some of us are,” Flath said.
The good news is that the National Weather Service has certified Busch Stadium as a Storm Ready Facility.
“I know that they’re going to take care of us,” Flath said. “If we need to be in a safe space, we’ll be able to find a safe space.”
Just down the road at Forest Park they can’t offer the same type of shelter at the Evolution Music Festival, so they brought in an outside meteorologist to keep an eye on the sky.
“We monitor the wind speeds, wind gusts, and lightning obviously is a critical one,” Evolution Music Festival Executive Producer Joe Litvag said.
With that in mind, Litvag said the show will go on rain or shine.
“Bring something that you can sit on that you'll be comfortable with that won’t' get soaked through,” Litvag said. “Wear your rain boots if you've got them just in case. Bring a plastic slicker of some sort. A lot of the fun happens, believe it or not, is when you're in a rainy situation.”
“We bought our ponchos,” Flath said. “We’re kind of ready for a little bit of an adventure. We’re going to have a good time.”
