DEFIANCE, Mo. — One person died and four others were seriously injured in a crash early Friday morning on Highway 95 in St. Charles County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 22-year-old man from St. Peters was driving eastbound on Highway 94, east of Howell Road, at about 2 a.m. Friday when he "failed to negotiate a curve" and overcorrected. As a result, the car went off the right side of the roadway and overturned.
The driver and three passengers — a 21-year-old woman from O'Fallon, Missouri; a 22-year-old man from St. Peters; and a 23-year-old from St. Peters — were seriously injured in the crash, according to MSHP. They were taken via ambulance to an area hospital for treatment. Only one of them was wearing a seatbelt.
A fourth passenger, 22-year-old Miranda Douglas of St. Charles, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to MSHP.
