ST. LOUIS — One person was killed and another was injured after a crash Saturday night in south St. Louis.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the scene of a crash involving a van and a sedan just before midnight Saturday in the 3500 block of South Jefferson Avenue.
At the scene of the crash, police said they found a 40-year-old man with minor injuries to his leg. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
About 20 minutes after the report of the crash, officers learned of a possible shooting where a 20-year-old man was dropped off at an area hospital by a private vehicle. He had died due to a puncture wound to his head, and police learned he had been in the sedan involved in the earlier crash.
Police were originally unsure whether the man died due to a possible shooting or due to injuries sustained in the crash, but the medical examiner on Thursday determined the injury was not a gunshot wound and was a result of blunt force trauma sustained in the crash.
Accident Reconstruction and the Homicide Division assumed the ongoing investigation. They were working to determine what led up to the crash.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the Homicide Division at 314-444-5371. To remain anonymous, contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
