Schnucks is now out $65,000 following a civil penalty to settle a federal prescription drug investigation.

The stores were accused of filling prescriptions written by unauthorized practitioners. In a statement from the Department of Justice, "the allegations include that pharmacies filled prescriptions written by mid-level practitioners not authorized to prescribe certain controlled substances and by practitioners who previously surrendered their prescribing privileges."

Schnucks released a statement saying: "The safety of Schnucks pharmacy patients and the communities we serve is a top priority. When this matter was brought to our attention, we immediately cooperated fully with authorities, identified and resolved the issue, and went on to invest in additional training and new technology to further limit such an incident in the future."
