The pilot landed the plane but then crashed into the guardrail on the side of highway near mile marker 80.

MOUNT VERNON, Ill — No one was injured when a small plane made an emergency landing on Interstate 64 in Mount Vernon Friday morning.

According to Trooper Haylie Polistina with the Illinois State Police, the plane had mechanical issues forcing the pilot to attempt to land on westbound I-64. The pilot landed the plane but then crashed into the guardrail on the side of highway near mile marker 80.

Polistina said no injuries were reported in connection with the crash.

The crash did cause a traffic backup, but traffic has since returned to normal.
