Thieves break into Soulard bar for 3rd time in 6 weeks

“Obviously, they have zero respect for other people’s property,” Big Daddy's owner Jon Vieluf said. “I know they wouldn’t like it if someone did it to them.”

ST. LOUIS — A longtime Soulard business owner is speaking out after his business was robbed for the third time in six weeks.

Typically, Big Daddy’s owner Jon Vieluf is preparing for his annual Memorial Day celebration, but instead, he’s spending the morning cleaning up.

“I’m just really upset,” Jon Vieluf said. “This time they got us pretty good. For some reason, my alarm didn’t trigger.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department has made multiple arrests in connection with two April 10 break-ins that happened within 30 minutes.

That didn’t stop someone from trying to get back in the bar on May 12.

“It feels like I’ve got a target on my back,” Vieluf said.

This time around the thieves came in through a patio window, stealing the ATM and breaking into a lockbox before fleeing through the back alley.

“Obviously, they have zero respect for other people’s property,” Vieluf said. “I know they wouldn’t like it if someone did it to them.”

According to a St. Louis police spokesperson, it’s unclear if these incidents are related in any way, but investigators aren’t ruling out any possibilities.

“I have faith that this will be nipped in the butt,” Vieluf said. “It’s not like the police aren’t doing anything. They’re trying to get to the bottom of this.”

In fact, a department spokesperson said St. Louis police are currently reviewing plans for patrol adjustments throughout the Soulard neighborhood.

“I’m hoping that the police can put a stop to it, catch these guys and get them off the street,” Vieluf said.
