ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — An investigation is underway after a man was fatally struck on a south St. Louis County road Monday evening.
A spokeswoman with the St. Louis County Police Department said that a man was struck and killed in the area of Mackenzie Road and Alpine Drive in south St. Louis County.
Just before 7:15 Monday evening, officers from the Affton Southwest Precinct responded to a call regarding a motor vehicle crash. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been struck by the vehicle.
A preliminary investigation found that the vehicle was traveling southbound on Mackenzie Road when it struck the man in the roadway. The vehicle then drove away.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. St. Louis County police identified him as 74-year-old William Starr. Police said he lived on the 9300 block of Mackenzie Road, near where he was struck and killed.
St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives and the Accident Reconstruction Unit are conducting an ongoing investigation.
