ST. LOUIS — One person died early Friday morning after a crash on the edge of St. Louis' Northampton and Southampton neighborhoods.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the crash happened just before 3 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Chippewa Street and Kingshighway Boulevard.

Police said a Honda Civic was driving east on Chippewa and passed Lawn Avenue, when it crossed the center line and drove into the westbound lanes of Chippewa.

The car then hit a light pole and came to stop on the sidewalk on Chippewa.

The driver was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police identified her Tuesday as 20-year-old Aylia Crus.

A passenger in the car, a 22-year-old woman, refused medical treatment.
