ST. LOUIS — There has been a significant decrease in patients seeking emergency treatment for conditions not related to the coronavirus, according to SSM Health.
Doctors at SSM Health said they are concerned some patients who need emergency care for serious health issues, like suspected heart attacks and strokes, are not receiving it.
“SSM Health is triaging all patients who arrive at our emergency rooms and quickly mask and separate those with symptoms associated with COVID-19,” said Hsieng Su, MD, Region Chief Medical Officer, SSM Health St. Louis in a press release. “We continue taking multiple precautions to protect everyone who enters the facility. We have visitor restrictions, screening protocols and adhere to the CDC’s guidance on personal protective equipment and cleaning processes.”
Primary care physicians are also available for routine health care needs, the release said. Most are using telehealth visits to connect with patients for sudden, minor health conditions, follow-up visits for chronic conditions and health screenings, and more. Some in-office appointments are also available.
