St. Charles County residents fighting to stop waste station

Metro Fill Development is the applicant for the facility. Between 300 and 400 trucks would use the station daily.

UPDATE: St. Charles County will hold a meeting about the waste station on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at the County Administration Building at 201 N. Second St., St. Charles. Free parking is available.

Below is the story as it appeared last week.

Tuesday afternoon, St. Charles County staff released a recommendation report for a proposed waste transfer site.

Staff is recommending a denial for the site at Friedens and South River Road. Currently, the site is being used as a fill site and a quarry. Scott Stork, who lives in a nearby neighborhood said it would be irresponsible. He’s worried about the smell, traffic, and falling property values.

Metro Fill Development is the applicant for the facility. Between 300 and 400 trucks would use the station daily.

Stork said it would be a bad deal for the city and residents.

“The city has talked about developing that whole area into some kind of a riverfront project for the past five or ten years," Stork said. "Putting a trash transfer station in that proximity would negate the ability to do any of those things.”

The recommendation from county staff for the denial came as welcome news to Stork.
