Annual 'Sista Strut' 3K for breast cancer happening Saturday. Here's how to sign up

5 On Your Side's Sydney Stallworth will be co-hosting the event's pep rally starting at 8 a.m.

ST. LOUIS — It's time to strut and raise awareness of breast cancer in women of color!

Sista Strut 2024, a pep rally and 3K walk to raise awareness for how breast cancer disproportionately affects women of color, is underway Saturday, Oct. 5. Click here to register for the event. You can also register for a mammogram at the Siteman Cancer Center Mobile Mammography Van, which will be on site from 7:30-11:30 a.m.

"The heart of St. Louis races with excitement as the highly anticipated 15th Annual Sista Strut event returns, proudly presented by iHeartMedia. Sista Strut St. Louis promises a day filled with unity, empowerment, and the celebration of women of color, all in support of a crucial cause," the event said in an emailed press release.

Black women have a 41% higher death rate from breast cancer than white women and are more likely to be diagnosed before age 40. Sista Strut raises awareness of these facts and works to change them. They promote early detection and the search for a cure.

The event kicks off with a pep rally at The Genii Healthcare Main Stage, co-hosted by 5 On Your Side's Sydney Stallworth, beginning at 8 a.m. The rally will be followed by the 3K walk and car parade beginning at 15th and Market, proceeding west to Jefferson, north to Olive, east to 14th Street, and finally south to Chestnut.

A balloon release will also be held during the event. No outside balloons are allowed.

Free parking for the event is available until noon at the Enterprise Center and Stifel Garage, Williams Paper Lot and the Justice Center Garage.

All money raised by Sista Strut will stay in St. Louis, event organizers said.
