St. Louis City deputy dies in the line of duty

The sheriff's office announced Wednesday he died of a sudden medical issue.

ST. LOUIS — A deputy from the St. Louis Sheriff's Office died in the line of duty after a medical issue, the office announced Wednesday.

Deputy Dennis Boyd will be remembered as a brave, professional, and dedicated public servant, St. Louis Sheriff Vernon Betts said.

Boyd died of a medical issue that the sheriff's office said was "sudden."

"His loss is a tremendous tragedy, not only for his family but for the entire St. Louis community," Betts said. "We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."

Funeral service arrangements would be announced at a later time. Betts said the sheriff's office was working with Boyd's family to support them.

"His loss is felt deeply by his colleagues, friends, and the community he worked so hard to protect," read a statement from the St. Louis Sheriff's Office.
