ST. LOUIS COUNTY – St. Louis County Executive Sam Page announced he will ask the County Council to approve funding the purchase of police body cameras and in-car cameras.
“Equipping our officers with these cameras is essential to improving community and police relations in the St. Louis region,” County Executive Page said. “The events that unfolded in Ferguson nearly five years ago revealed deep and divisive challenges in the St. Louis region. These problems are not unique to St. Louis County, but they are our reality. And we must finally address them.”
Page will request legislation at the June 4 meeting of the County Council to appropriate $2,752,904 from Proposition P funds to purchase body cameras, in-car cameras, and all related hardware, software and data storage.
A press release said, "the cameras are consistent with the St. Louis County Police Department’s commitment to transparency and they also improve situational awareness and officer safety."
“The cameras will be good for the public and good for our officers,” Page said.
