ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — All St. Louis County Library branches will reduce its hours in 2024 following a vote from the Board of Trustees.
All St. Louis County Library branches will close at 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday starting Jan. 2, 2024. Branches were open until 9 p.m. previously.
All other library hours remain the same.
According to a press release, the change in hours is not budget-related. The change will help library employees provide better service and support to those coming into the branches, SLCL said.
SLCL said that data collected showed that visitors from 8-9 p.m. accounted for only 1% of the library traffic. Most other hourly periods of the day were between 8-11% for library traffic, the release said.
SLCL also said the change is in line with other neighboring library districts in the St. Louis region that close at 8 p.m. or earlier.
