ST. LOUIS COUNTY -- Thousands of dollars of your hard earned tax money down the drain.

The St. Louis County Assessor's Office says a technical glitch is to blame for sending out a second round of personal property tax forms to thousands of county tax payers.

St. Louis County Assessor Jake Zimmeran says the printing and mailing of the second notices is roughly estimated at $15,000. Zimmerman wouldn't go into detail on what might have caused the "technical glitch," but he says the problem has been fixed.

The assessor's office released the following statement,

"We were disappointed to learn that second notices for personal property declarations were inadvertently sent to roughly 80,000 taxpayers that had already filed their 2015 personal property declarations. Unfortunately, the technical issue wasn't discovered until after the second notices were mailed out but we worked quickly to find the source and made the necessary changes to ensure this won't happen again in the future. We understand this may be an inconvenience to taxpayers but if anyone is unsure about the status of their declaration, we encourage them to call 314-615-5500 or send an email to assessor@stlouisco.com. All St. Louis County taxpayers should file their personal property declarations prior to May 1st to avoid late filing penalties."
