ST. LOUIS — A woman died in an early morning fatal crash in St. Louis's Downtown West area, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The crash involved two vehicles and happened around 1 a.m. at the intersection of S 14th and Market streets, a brief statement from SLMPD said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
District 4 officers responded to the scene.
A 35-year-old woman driving a Dodge Durango westbound violated the red light and entered the intersection, police said. At the same time, a 32-year-old woman was driving a Dodge Caravan southbound and entering the intersection with a green light. According to the preliminary investigation, the two vehicles collided.
A 44-year-old man, a 40-year-old man, and a 32-year-old woman were passengers inside the Caravan during the collision, police said.
The 32-year-old woman, who was sitting in the backseat of the Caravan, was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital. She was later identified as Tunisha Chestnutt of Dellwood.
The Caravan driver was also taken to a hospital, police said.
Accident Reconstruction investigators were requested at the scene.
