Man shot, killed on I-55 in St. Louis identified

The man wasn't breathing when they found him, police said.

ST. LOUIS — What began as an assignment to help a driver on the side of Interstate Highway 55 Sunday afternoon in St. Louis turned into a fatal shooting investigation.

A man was found wounded by gunfire and unconscious inside a car on the side of the I-55's southbound lanes just south of the 7th Street off-ramp at about 12:20 p.m., police said. He wasn't breathing.

The victim died shortly after police found him. He was identified Monday afternoon as 31-year-old Timothy Roberts.

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting, a brief report from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said.

The man was found in a silver Toyota.

No other information was made available.
